Typically, it's considered a "mild" virus, since it really has no other side effects, except for those horrid little contagious bumps, which at most may become itchy. It's related to the pox virus.
I am in no way a doctor. I am simply a mom who reached her wits end. This is what worked for me. Hopefully, it will work for you too! Just be cautious with anything you decide to try.
THE START OF IT ALL
My daughter showed us a little pimple she got on her back. I wanted to pop it, but she freaked out, and didn't let me near it. After a few weeks, it got noticeably bigger, and I figured it was a wart, and not a pimple. I am not a fan of rushing kids to the doctor for any little thing, so against every one's suggestion, I didn't take her. Then it got bigger and there were TWO more next to it. OK, maybe now it was time to head to the doctors.
Took her to the doctor's office, and after examining my daughter, the doctor nonchalantly said, "Oh, it's Molluscum." She also told me it was contagious but that it would run its course.

Those word haunt me now a year later.
I put the bumps on the back burner and didn't give it much thought. Doctor said they would go away on their own. One day ONE of them did. It scabbed over and dried out. Ahhh, the doctor was right. No need to worry. Well here we are, months later, and not with THREE bumps, but TWENTY FOUR bumps. They were mostly tiny, teeny tiny, except for one. They seemed to just pop out over night. I went into freak out mode. Twenty four bumps on my little girl? I couldn't deal.
I went online and started looking at pictures. BIG mistake. Hundreds? She can get hundreds...and on her face??
Immediately, I took her back to the doctor, and said "You said it would go away on its own. They are still here and now there are more". The doctor looked a little annoyed by the obvious accusation and replied, "And, they will. It may take a while." She told me if I really wanted, she would send me to a dermatologist, but that all they were going to do was send an expensive cream, and that my insurance would not cover it. I was bummed, I was not working, and knew this would put a huge strain on our pockets.
That day, I came home and my heart was broken. I felt as it was my fault I let these get as far as they did. Oh, did I forget to mention, I was 7 months pregnant. So, now I had another thing weighing on my mind....WHAT IF THE BABY GOT THIS AFTER IT WAS BORN.
That same night I became this crazed research monster. I read up anything and everything I could find.
OUR ADVENTURE BEGINS (TEA TREE OIL)
After reading page, after page, after page, my mind became a little clouded with treatments. I wanted to try them all. I got overwhelmed. After, thinking it all through, I thought that I would take a natural oil approach.
I began with 100% TEA TREE OIL (TTO). I bought it at a natural health store. It was $10 for about an ounce. I figured it would last since I was only suppose to dip a q-tip and put a thin layer on each bump.
This was the one I bought. It had a strong smell, but nothing to bad.
I also bought some hydrogen peroxide, cotton balls, and Q-tips.
I started off by cleaning her skin with a cotton ball wet with HP. I started off by putting on one layer of the TTO with a Q-tip. After two day, the bumps were the same size, some maybe a tad smaller, as in less inflamed, and seemed to be drying over the top.
I was ecstatic! It was really working!
We tried this for about 3 weeks. The bumps stayed the same size, but definitely looked as if they were drying out......that is until we wet them again.
After every shower, or the few times I let her run through the sprinklers, I noticed they looked puffy again. Trying to keep positive I continued the treatment, this time adding IODINE once the TTO dried up. I did this a few times but the iodine was coloring her skin.
I went back to researching. This was not working out quite as I thought and with summer right around the corner, I needed something that worked a bit quicker.
TAKE TWO (APPLE CIDER VINEGAR)
After a few more hours of research, I decided to try some Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV). I did not want to do the baths, because the area where she had the bumps would not be covered, and I didn't want to risk exposing the areas that would be sitting in the water. So, I decided to just try the bandages with the ACV cotton ball.
That day I went and bought some generic ACV. When she got home from school, I let her run in the sprinklers. When she came out they looked as they normally did....puffy. The larger one was really white. I poke at it a bit with 2 Q-tips, just to stress it out some.
I started the process, and when my daughter realized how many band aids I was going to be putting on her, she had a meltdown. Instead of putting one on each, I picked out a few that would be the guinea pigs in this experiment.
I left the bandages on for about 6 hours. Before bed, I went to give her a bath, and to have the water ease the removal of the bandages.
As I removed each one, I started to notice they were all turning WHITE. Definitely different from the TTO. When I removed the last one, which had been covering the big bump, we realized that it had turned BLACK!
BLACK = GREAT
This means its going to scab over.
As you can imagine, I was thrilled, and finally seeing a light at the end of this ordeal.
The next day, I repeated it all. I let her play in the sprinkles, bathed her, put the band aids with the cotton ball etc. This time none turned black but they were all visibly bigger and some were more white then usual.
On the third day, I repeated the same steps. This time TWO of them were really white, and a lot bigger then the previous day. After her bath I poked at them a little and applied the ACV.....and guess what? When I removed the bandages they were black.
On the days following that, I had to change up the routine a bit. It was raining down here, and windy, so we weren't able to enjoy the sprinklers. I feel like this made a HUGE difference. Although, i followed all the other steps like in the previous days, they were getting a only a LITTLE bit bigger and continued to stay a tiny bit white, but nothing compared to when I would let her stay wet for a while.
She also had one solitaire one on her right ankle (small, but not tiny, and slightly white) and one on top of her left foot (tiny/ not white). I let her soak her feet in a vinegar/water bath for 20 minutes, and then applied the ACV cotton ball. I did this for two days. The larger one got really red with a dark spot in the middle. I'm hoping this means its going to scab over soon. The other one doesn't look any different really, but it's so small and NOT white. This is happening today as I write this so hopefully soon I can have answers as to what happened.
WHERE ARE WE NOW
As of today, she has had THREE turn black, and go away. We have been doing the ACV for a week. The weather was not on our side for a few days, and finally today, I was able to let her run in the sprinklers again. Just like I thought, the two bigger ones got really puffy and white, I poked them a bit, and applied the ACV band aid to it.
I am going to give it a few hours and see what happens.
WHAT I LEARNED SO FAR (In General)
1. Don't sit on your butt. Even if your doctor says it will go away on its own, do some research, and figure out what other approach may work for you. Doctors don't prescribe holistic, or home remedies, and who knows, they may just work. You have to wait it out anyway, right?
2. Don't give up! There are many, many, many posts out there of what has worked, and hasn't worked, for many people. This is a good thing. It gives us many options to play with. Maybe you luck out on your first attempt, and maybe you have to try two, or three remedies, before finding out what works best with your body. Either way you have to LET IT RUN ITS COURSE, so why not try different things in the meantime.
3. Be patient. It might take 2 weeks to clear up on someone and 2 months on someone else. Remember, our immune systems help with the curing of this virus. We don't all have the same one.
4. Take vitamins. I knew I had to attack this from the outside and the inside. My daughter is a picky eater and veggies and fruits were not going to cut it. I started her on a gummy multi-vitamin. I later realized there was one for the immune system. I will get that next time.
5. WASH everything! I didn't repeat her outfits, and I used ONE towel every day, and I changed her bed sheets once a week. During that week, I sprayed the living daylights out of it with Lysol. All it takes is one little flake of skin to pass this virus around. I tried my best. I sprayed down everything that came in contact with her clothes or body daily with Lysol.
6. Anti-Bacterial is our friend. Wash your hands and their hands with soap and warm water as often as possible and then squirt some anti-bacterial just in case. This is what we did.
7. Exposure. If you are lucky enough to have them someplace where they can be covered up do so. Not necessarily with bandages, but with clothes. This helps in keeping others virus free. Make sure your kids wear pants and t-shirts over them. It's hard, but just be mindful. Someone wasn't with me and look at all I've been through. If you don't have molluscum, stay away from anyone that does. For adults: Its like an STD and contagious through sex because of the skin to skin contact. So let your partners know, or better yet, stay zipped up.
WHAT I LEARNED SO FAR (with ACV)
1. TAKE THAT! The ACV works best in scabbing the larger ones that are really white. Try getting these first. If they have a lot of bumps, it can get overwhelming for both you, and them.
2. BATHS I did NOT give her baths. I didn't want to risk them spread to her privates. Her bumps were all on her back, around the under part of her armpit.
3. WATER EXPOSURE I noticed my daughters got puffier and whiter AFTER being exposed to water for a good while....at least 20 minutes or more. I let her run in the sprinklers. If you are unable to use sprinklers for any reason, or use a chlorinated pool (there is no proof its spreads in chlorine), I suggest letting them wear a t-shirt, and let them enjoy a long SHOWER (not bath). I suggest the t-shirt because it will keep the bumps moist for a good while. Dry them off as soon as they come out of the shower.
4. STEPS Once they are dried up from the shower, start you ACV process.
- pick out puffiest/whitest bumps first (only do a few at a time)
- poke the bigger ones a bit to aggravate them. This seems to help. Use Q-tip.
- dry area well
- place half of band aid over selected bump
- dip cotton ball in ACV. Squeeze some of the excess but not completely dry.
- place in middle of band aid
- seal up other half of band aid
5. TIME. If you do this during the day and are able to reapply, do so. Once the cotton dries up, remove them with tweezers from inside the band aid, and insert a newly moist cotton ball. Leave this on for a few more hours.Then remove bandages off completely. I found the sleeping with the bandages was unnecessary since the ACV does dry up in a couple of hours. No need for them to be sleeping uncomfortably. I would only suggest this if your little one picks and pulls the bandages while awake.
6. Vinegar is acidic and burns. It was very hard for me to put the band aids on a squirmy, whiny kid, so I opted not to put such a small piece of cotton on the bumps. This did cause some burning of the outer layer of skin. This also only occurred on the ones that scabbed over first. If you see that the skin becomes to irritated give it a few days. Let it heal, and then continue. Some people dilute it a bit with water, but I didn't do this. If it burns their skin too much, then stop for a while, and try again. If it continues to hurt their skin, apart from just a bit of stinging, this may not be suitable for them.
7. The Mighty scab. Once the bumps scab, I wouldn't put anymore ACV because it will hurt. Instead, put some neosporin and cover with a band aid. One two of ours, once the band aid was removed, the scab was stuck on the band aid. If the area still looks like its healing, clean it off with some hydrogen peroxide, and reapply the neosporin.
8. Scarring. Yes, it might leave scars. I think they will eventually look like chicken pox scar. Burning them off will leave scars, too. I don't mind a few small round scars. I can live with them and since my daughter is only 5, and has a lot of growing to do, I don't think they will be that big of a deal. Anything to get rid of these pesky bumps. You can try some ointment like Maderma afterwards for scars, Vitamin E, or maybe even aloe. I am not doing any of these as of yet.
SUPPLIES:
1. Vinegar I used the Walmart brand vinegar. I believe it was about $3.50 for the large bottle.
2. Cotton balls
3. Q-tips
4. Hydrogen peroxide
5. Band aids (a lot) or medical tape (sensitive one)
6. Neosporin
I haven't taken any pictures yet, because I get so stressed out with them, that as soon as my daughter comes out of the shower, I just want to attack them. I usually remember after I have them all covered up.
Please, feel free to leave me any questions. I will try to answer them the best I can. I will also update in a few days with the current situation of the bumps.

I first saw these bumps on my son on Thursday of last week. I brought him to his pediatrician yesterday and he was diagnosed with MC. This virus is spreading on my poor baby daily. I started tea tree oil last night and have since seen several more "bumps" pop up. I'll continue to try this and am also using colloidal silver and will also moisturize his skin with coconut oil. I have been reading a lot about the ACV. I don't want to try too many things all at once, but I want this virus GONE. He has quite a bit of bumps with the majority being on his right side under his arm area and down. Since last night he has had one pop up on his hand, his finger, inner thigh, his leg, his arm, and one right above his diaper area (he's two). On his side there are several... so, my question would be - as for the ACV - do I treat only a few at a time or all at once?? He has so many that I would go through a box of bandaids. This is all quite confusing and extremely overwhelming. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance!!

I was only successful with the ACV. The tee tree oil did not really work for us.
I treated about 4-5 at a time. The CRUCIAL part is that the MC must be REALLY white. That's when it look like a pus filled pimple. It, however, is NOT pus. That's the virus. The way I got them to be white were two ways.
1: I let my daughter play in a chlorinated pool. After she was in there a good hour or more, some of the more mature MC came out white. I immediately applied an ACV soaked cotton (small piece) with a Band-Aid. I left it on several hours. Once it dried, I DID NOT remove it. Instead I used a dropper (for medicine) and resoaked with ACV. After a couple more hour I would peel the Band-Aid off. They were either black or gray. Those would scabbed over within the next day.
2: I live in Florida so a pool or the beach isn't hard for me to get to, so for those who can't get to one, I suggest applying a cotton ball cover with a Band-Aid but soak the cotton ball in water. Leave that on for a few hours. Soak again in water if needed with dropper. Once MC get white then apply the ACV. You can reapply it to the same cotton ball or change it.
We've experienced this virus with three of our six kids. Zymaderm (Sp?) Works great at drying them and keeping them from multiplying out of control. Never had more then maybe 10 at a time. It does run it's course, but keeping the spots dried up and controlled is key. Thanks for sharing about the ACV. Just found spots on another kid and thought I'd Google the ACV before placing an order for the Zymaderm. :-)

ReplyDeleteJust like your stories, one bump on my butt turned into multiple and my doctor said it was no big deal. It has been over a year until I finally decided to do something.
Recently, I received Tretinoin .025% for acne. I experimented with the little friend on my thigh. Following other online advice, I would aggravate it using a toothpick while I applied the Tretinoin cream, then covered it with a band-aid. After a few days, the MC bump became larger, really red and inflamed which I heard was a good sign because that means that my body was beginning to fight it off. Following the advice, once the MC had a white pearly center, I disinfected a needle and poked that sucker out. White stuff came out and it bled a lot, but it wasn't painful for me. I cleaned with alcohol, put neosporin on it and covered with a bandaid. It's been over 2 months and that MC on my thigh is thankfully gone I do have dark colored skin around where the band-aid was (I have sensitive skin and eczema), but I do not mind that in comparison to MC.
Because the other MCs are on my butt and I do not have anyone to help me with those, I have not tried the Tretinoin.
BUT, I just bought some ACV and last night was my second night sleeping with these cotton balls. I followed typical directions; cotton soaked and medical tape. After my first night, one of the MCs was black, looked like a scab. The others unfortunately, I did not see much of anything. I removed them, then sat in a shallow tub (as they are on my butt) with a cup of acv and water, dried and reapplied the cotton balls. However, this morning during my morning pee, I felt itchiness near my urethra. NOOOOOOOOO!! I feel a small bump there that was not there before I went to bed :(
As I lay here with these mini cotton balls taped to me in awkward locations, I cannot imagine what I'm going to do if I can't get rid of these horrid things.
I have not uncovered this morning's cotton balls, so I don't know what my day 2 results are, but if ACV was able to turn one of them black after day one, then this tx is worth trying more days.
I will skip the ACV bath part and stick strictly to showers and cotton balls.
I will also go out and purchase vitamins per your suggestions.

DeleteI managed to pop 2 of my daughters but she freaked out from the thought of pain and I freaked out from the idea of having it spread even quicker like this. I disinfected everything like crazy after I did it and even that didn't satisfy me.
Getting them soaked on water before hand gets them to turn white, too. This was the only way I got the ACV to work. It surfaced the virus. Once it surfaced, I applied the ACV and usually by the next day it was scabbed over. If not by the 2nd day for sure.
After doing some research, I found this cream http://www.conzerol.com/. I think I am going to give it a try. It's pricey, but seems to do the job! I'm going to give the ACV a shot before I order though. Starting tomorrow!
ReplyDeletePricey for us was a last resort. AT the time, even spending $10 on a teeny bottle of tee tree oil was a lot. I decided to chance it one last time with the ACV before actually spending big bucks on something I had read as much mixed reviews on as the ACV. I spent about $20, give or take, on the ACV treatment. About $5 for the big bottle of ACV, $4 on two bags of cotton balls, $5-6 on Band-Aids (I went through a lot), $1 q-tips.

At first I was rubbing it on with my hand all over like lotion, that wasn't really doing much but they did get smaller so I read more and it said don't touch, get wet, sex or anything so I didn't have sex I didn't touch, when I went pee, I dabbed dry when I got out of the shower I dabbed dry and I used a mirror to see what was down there! I did these steps after the shower every day once a day I'm sure more times a day won't be a bad thing

Step 2: put one side of the qtip and get coconut oil on it and put it on one bump
Step3: flip to the other side of the qtip and do the same for a different bump
After you have applied coconut oil to every bump then dab it dry with a rag or cloth don't rub just dab mine went away 2-3 weeks after that and I have not seen them since this was about a month ago and I have had sex and they are still gone it works

Then I saw the child who my daughter caught it from (playing dress up at his house so I assume from wearing one of his outfits) and the boy was COVERED with them all over his chest. Some were red and looked just awful. We have a wedding coming up in 4 weeks and she is a bridesmaid. TTO just isn't working. I'm starting ACV today and just hoping that the large visible ones crust over and fall off in time. How long has it taken you with the ACV? My daughter has had them since Easter and has about 10 so far (one scabbed on it's own and it was dreadful - inflammed and really painful so hope they don't go that bad - but this one was massive and none of the others are half as big. Any info on your progress would be gratefully received!

DeleteIt took me a while to get rid of them with the ACV because I wasn't getting them "White" or surfaced quick enough. Once I figured that out I got rid them of them in about 2-3 weeks. It would have been quicker but I only had access to the pool during the weekends. I was able to zap 2-4 of them at a time.
I'm grateful for this page! My 14 month old was just diagnosed with them and they are pin-prick sized and appear to be everywhere. His face, neck, behind his ears, torso and diaper area!! Is it possible to treat them before they get 'big'? Is there anything I can do to keep them from spreading? And will all these tiny ones turn into the full-fledged big ones? Right now I'm panicking.

DeleteTo keep them from spreading, I read that you can wipe them down with a vinegar or bleach soak. If mixed correctly, they are safe to apply to all areas, except around his eyes. You can find a percentage recipe online. EX: 50% water/40% vinegar etc. That's just an example, not sure if its right, so don't use that before researching. This neutralizes the virus from what I have read. I did not give my daughter these soaks in a tub for fear it wouldn't work and that being in water would help them spread. I later started letting her get into a pool (chlorinated water)and this would make them large and white. I would tackle them with ACV at this time, and with the next 24-48 hours they would scab over. That meant those were taken care of and up to now, 2 months later. haven't returned.
There is so much information about molluscum and so many conflicting "cures". It is really interesting to read other peoples comments.

Three of my children had MC and we had to find a cure that was good for very young children and adults. Deletewell after reading your advice yesterday ive started with AC as well one night and there already changing hoping it wont take to long.My daughters 5 and had this for about 6 months and its just getting worse.As she has in inbetween her thighs and groin shes constantly scratching which of course is spreading it.My son who is 12 now had it when he was about 5 but it was on his back and nowhere near as bad as my daughters and i just left i,t he only had about 10 and they did clear eventually on there own took about 18mths im to afraid to leave hers that long as its spreading so quickly fingers crosses this could be the end of it soon.

ReplyDeleteI know that this is a hard thing to go through. Be patient. I honestly feel that the ACV will work. You have to be consistent. The moment I wasn't....they spread.
1. Tackle a few at a time.
2. Make sure to soak in a pool or soak each molluscum you are treating that day with the water soaked cotton ball for a few hours, to maybe even a day. They need to be big and puffy.
3. Once puffy, hit it with the ACV cotton ball. Leave that also for a few hours until dry and then wet again.
4. For the ones that aren't getting treating, just wipe them down with ACV.
As far as the ones on the groing, I wouldn't do the ACV directly on it. I didn't do bathes so I don't know if those would help, but if she has them in her privates already it may help to sit in a ACV or bleach bath.
I am not a doctor so I am only saying that because I read it online. I would do it cautiously.
im gona try doing the baths every day and shes haveing them covered every night (the ones i can) the only problem is it stinging her quite a bit on the thighs but i am seeing such an improvement im just dosing her with calpol and piriton to help her sleep.im also only doing the really big puffy ones to start with.Have already passed this info onto another woman i know whos 3 children suffer with this evil problem and shes gona to start straight away as well lol
ReplyDeleteIf they are stings your may want to dilute the ACV a bit with water. This may slow down the effect but it may help with the sting. I only did that once, and instantly regretted it. I wanted faster results. My daughter would complain about the sting but it would go away after a good few minutes.

ReplyDeleteI don't suggest going into a pool and not treating right away. The wet bathing suit causes moisture and then they will thrive. The ACV neutralizes the skin. Once you apply it on the big ones they will scab. I'm pretty sure of this. I was not one for baths. I didn't trust them.
Delete11 days in all bigger ones are dead and scabbed over and most of the small are on the way out (she had about 30)stopped the baths as her skin was realling suffering and ive started to use an e45 cream on the uneffected areas that were burnt by the vinegar things are looking great.I still change her bedding every day and never put same clothes on twice she has also has been wearing cycle shorts under her school uniform to stop her scratcing so easily.Must say was going to take before and after photos but like you said i was on such a mission never seem to think about doing it once i start treatment :-)

ReplyDeleteSon is 6. MC for the last 18 months. Dermo fried three tiny ones with the "beetle juice." DO NOT DO THAT! Instantly, those three tiny bumps were three 50-cent piece sized bubbles of skin. Child cried for 8 hours straight from the pain.Those 3 BIG bubbles of skin burst and turned into 30 more MC bumps. $275 please. If you poke the MC, the juice will make more bumps. If you burst them and sit in the water, they will spread all over the body. Bought the Amazon MC "cure." Didn't work for us. Bought clove oil. Didn't work for us. ACV stings like bees, but if we do it once morning and night, they reduce in size and finally go away (but pop up elsewhere). I've rarely seen the black/gray condition ya'll describe (2x in 18 months). There are only scars where the Dermo did the "beetle juice" treatment. My child eats nothing but vegetables: raw spinach twice a day, carrots, grape tomatoes...rarely any sugar. Vitamin every single day of his life. He's rarely sick. In my child's case, I highly doubt this is an immune definiciency. Sad they can't do animal experiments and cure it: it can only be cultured in human skin.

ReplyDeleteI get eczema and this controls it well - 30drops of MMS in hot baths. No germ, viruses, funguses or mold can exist in MMS in a bath so you cant spread it to other parts of the body. There are other protocols using MMS for skin issues like warts etc- needs to really be internal and external treatment.
I've been treating my 4 year old's molluscum with ACV for the last couple of weeks. It seems to be getting rid of the big spots that we've done but we have a problem now because some of the bumps are on patches of eczema and it hurts her too much to put the ACV there. How do I deal with that? She has many tiny ones too that I haven't started treating...should I get started on those too? Once the spot has "popped" and scabbed, is it gone? ReplyDeleteMy son has had this nasty virus for nearly a year. I tried nearly every prescription and OTC remedy I could find with absolutely no effect - other then more bumps appearing, of course. What started as one medium sized bump turned into approximately 150 on his abdomen, chest, neck and chin. In a moment of desperation on a trip to the local drugstore to buy my third $30.00 bottle of Zymaderm (I spilled the prior one all over my 5 year old) I found this blog. I thought, why not? It's a lot cheaper to buy band aids, vinegar and cotton balls. That was exactly 3 weeks ago today and guess what? The last of his molluscum contagiosm just scabbed off and we are celebrating! Had I treated all of them at the same time they would have been gone less than 2 weeks but I waited to treat the ones on his neck and face until I knew what was going to happen. I did have a few days of trial and error to find what worked best. After his shower each night I poured about 2 cups of vinegar into a shallow bath and had him soak in it before putting the bandaids and I think this was a key step. It was harder to do on his neck and the treatment wasn't working as well until I started laying a washcloth soaked in vinegar water on his neck each night for the same amount of time. It seemed to speed up the process and got rid of some of the tiny ones without having to treat them further. I also started to use the small Nexcare waterproof bandages instead of the tiny bandaid brand because the vinegar soaked cotton wouldn't dry out overnight and the bandage wouldn't slip off while he slept. The next morning I would slather him with antibiotic salve. I think it helped them heal faster, helped keep his skin from getting dry, and kept them from scarring. For the most part he has no scars. There are a few where you can see little pinpricks but I think they may go away with time. I think the biggest problem we had was that when they started to scab they were crusty and I had a hard time keeping him from picking at them. Once he picked I had to wait for them to heal before I could apply more vinegar. I can't thank you enough for this post! My son thanks you too! :)

We've been doing ACV for a few weeks and most days it feels like a losing battle. Just when I think we're getting somewhere, we wake to find 10 more. Her skin is raw from the vinegar but I found a couple of creams at the drug store that I think are helping. What I don't get is, how do you keep up? How to prevent them from spreading? DeleteA long overdue THANK YOU for your very detailed description of how you treated MC. Our baby girl was six months old when she started out with seven tiny spots of MC on the right side of her waist. They looked like the southern stars on her body. We suspect she contracted it from one of her swim class (I saw it on her classmate's body!) but we didn't know anything about it beforehand. We went to the doctor and she confirmed it as MC, told us to just leave it alone and it will go away. This was the WORST advice ever but we don't blame our doctor as they are trained to tell patients to let it run its course since it is a non-harmful virus. Fast forward to two months later, the MC had spread to more than 30 spots all over the right side of her body and it had also spread to her inner right elbow area. They kept spreading up and down her right elbow. When they started spreading downwards towards her genitals, we panicked and felt extremely helpless. Everything was on the right side of the body because it was winter and she was wearing long sleeves most of the time.
ReplyDeleteOne night as I lay awake checking the internet for solutions, I came across your website. It is so detailed. I was not convinced that the solution can be so simple. We decided to give Apple Cider Vinegar a try since we had nothing to loose and her condition kept worsening. My husband and I spent about 20 minutes every morning and night reapplying ACV on cotton balls and then plastered them individually on our baby. We also showered her with ACV water using a water scoop like the ones at Japanese hot springs. We stopped giving her bath because we just didn't like the idea of her soaking in MC. We were also afraid it will start spreading to the other side of her body.
Most of her MCs were fully out with pus when we started Apple Cider Vinegar out of desperation. After the first two nights, the MCs turned really gross. They were red and some turned black. Our baby cried and she was definitely in pain every time we applied ACV cotton balls on her. At that point, the MCs looked so scary on a young body it is sickening. Our stress levels increased after every ACV treatment especially when you remove the Band Aids and they looked like they were not getting better.
We persevered and after two months of treatment she is completely MC free! I cannot describe the relief and overwhelming joy when you have fought of the last MC. Of course, we kept applying ACV for a while just to be sure. We had a Euro trip planned before her MC so we had to treat her during our travels. We had to pack Band Aids, ACV, cotton balls, disposable gloves for the trip. We have before and after pictures and at the moment, the MC scars have completely faded and we don't even remember what it was like those few months of worrying.
On hindsight, we should had started the ACV treatment when it was only seven tiny spots. If the MCs are too small (no pus), it is best to seal them up with Band Aid and ACV instead of leaving them exposed because they can spread really rapidly. I bought a lot of towels for my baby and changed towels after every shower and washed the towels on the highest temperature. Our baby had long sleeves on for the entire duration of her MC because we didn't want it to spread. We wish our doctor had told us to keep the MC covered so they won't spread. Another tip, we bought a mini-spray pump and filled it up with ACV. We would lay out all the little cottons on the table and just spray them with ACV. We cut the Band Aids in halves and individually covered each MC.

P/S: We tested Zymaderm on one of the MCs, and it left a bump on her skin. The ones treated with ACV left very little visible marks.

ReplyDeleteMy son has had them since he was 4, he's almost 7 now. The doctor kept saying "don't worry they'll go away on their own." Well, yeah they do but then they also come back more plentiful than before. I did not want to have them frozen off or burned or cut, and at my wits end with these warts, I am trying ACV. We just started last night, and already there are signs of improvement! I talked with my son to let him know that we're going to try this and it may or may not work. We don't want to get our hopes up, but after just one treatment, it's hard to not get excited. It's hard to believe that after 3 years of dealing with these little suckers, that something as simple and easy as this would work!! Why can't doctors tell you about alternative methods you could try at home? And so far after doing the bath soak and taped on cotton balls,there has been no complaints of any discomfort. I am staying cautiously optimistic, but I wish I had known about this years ago.

ReplyDeleteTry putting original dawn dish washing liquid in bath water and soak in it. My son had a bad case of it and we ran out of bubble bath one night and used dawn instead in his bath water. His began to dry up and was completely gone in a few weeks,no discomfort at all.

ReplyDeleteI noticed a few pinprick flesh colored bumps on my inner thigh a year ago and blamed them on shaving. A year later I have about ten tiny bumps. I assume I spread them by shaving the area and working out in tight spandex and biking... After a lot of research, I have concluded that I have MC.
I decided to pop them carefully, removing the white core and continuing to press until blood flowed freely. It hurt like hell but I was determined. Afterwards I cleaned them individually with hydrogen peroxide. After reading your blog, i decided to add on the ACV treatment. i took a long shower and applied hydrogen peroxide then a cotton pad with ACV over night. The next morning (yesterday) they appeared dark black/brown in the center with a redness/inflamation around where the bump was. I applied neosporin and left it all day and the redness went down. Last night I repeated the treatment on 2 bumps that were not dark yet, and when I wokeup I was pleased to see that they are both dark.
Now im not sure what to do, this morning I cleaned them all individually with hydrogen peroxide and applied neosporin. I am terrified to take a bath in ACV as I do not want the virus to spread to my genital area...Should I apply ACV to all the bumps again tonight?? Should I keep them covered loosley with a cotton pad so they dont rub against my clothes and spread it (even tho the virus should be gone because theres no more white core...)
I have been wearing only clean clothes and washing my bedding. I even threw out my razor and gave up shaving until I beat this. Any advice on how to proceed would be AMAZING.
I was also wondering how long it takes for the scabs to heal. Im thrilled that the virus is (hopefully!) gone but honestly the scabs are more unsightly/stand out more than the pinprick flesh colored bumps...

ReplyDeleteI recently got diagnosed with molluscum by by gyn after I came to her after the pimples appeared on the lower parts of my buttock near my genital area. My gyn prescribed me condylox- a tiny tube that cost me sixty dollar and did nothing if made it worst. So I did research and found out about tree oil and acv. I bought tree oil soap and acv. I wsdt with the soap and disk medical gauge with acv and taped them to the affect area and left it overnight. After the first day almost all of the had developed a white head and some had turned black. It stung like hell though, so wouldn't recommend trying this way on younger children but for adults who want quicker results. I honestly don't know if the tree oil soap made a difference.

ReplyDeleteI must say that the ACV is the miracle cure. Hats off to whoever discovered this. Im 21 and still have no idea how I got this evil skin disease in the first place. I treated the bumps pretty aggressively by just using waterproof med tape, cotton squares, plastic wrap and ACV. It does burn and become quite uncomfortable but its so worth it. After the last treatment I was getting worried because it made them look soooo much worse and disgusting. 2 weeks of keeping the area clean, dry and NOT PICKING AT THEM. I'm molluscum free! Feeling confident again and getting back to enjoying my life ;)
ReplyDeleteAfter doing research I've come to find out that I have MC, tonight I did the ACV left it for about 3 hours and it turned white like a pimple I popped it and bled a lot. Really hoping ACV will work for me!
ReplyDeleteI have been applying ACV for 3 nights now. It did make 3 tiny ones to burn. But the bigger ones seems very stubborn. They r a bit burned from the sides which is causing a lot discomfort. Is it the sign of healing?? Many tiny ones are nor very white like puss filled. Should i continue to apply ACV on them? Please help. Its been 4 months since i got this and i am desperate to get rid of this. I am also drinking ACV every night and taking antibiotic tablets. Doctors have given me Vermisol to modulate my immune system.
ReplyDeletePlease let people know to be careful with the ACV. It burned my sons bottom so badly, and after 2 weeks he still has huge scabs all over his bottom. We had done the cotton ball and bandaids, and although it kills the Molluscum, it left horrible burns. After going to 3 doctors we finally were recommended a non-prescription drug that you can buy online. It's called MolluscumRX. It can be found here http://www.molluscumrx.com/. After applying it day and night for 2 weeks the molluscum is starting to scab over. It doesn't cause any pain! Please let people know about it. I wish I had only used this and not the ACV. It's not worth risking burning your child's skin. Thank you!

DeleteMe 5 year old had molluscum for about 8 months. At first I didn't know what they were and thought they would go away on their own! But I was wrong...and they only got worse. I took him to the doctor and that's when she diagnosed them as molluscum cantagiousum. I asked what we could do for them and all she said was they will go away on their own and it might take up to a year or 2!! There was no way I could go that long with out trying something. I felt defeated.. that's when i ran into your blog!!! Something finally gave me hope. So, I started trying ACV on a couple on his back. It turned them black and they were gone!! So I kept it up. He had a cluster of about 10 on his neck but his neck was very sensitive and it burned the skin around them. I quit the ACV and that's when they started working their way up to his little face :( there was no way I was going to try ACV on his face. I went to our Nature Store and they suggested Manuka Honey 12+. He also started taking 2 vitamins a day. I applied the honey to every spot, ever night and covered them with tissue (kinda like when your husband cuts himself shaving!!) The tissue did fall off in the middle of the night while he slept but I was to the point where I didn't care if I had sticky honey sheets!! Within a week....they were all gone!!!! We were so happy and relieved. It's been 2 months and still no signs of those pesky bumps!! I hope this helps someone else! I'm so glad that I found your blog!!

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry the ACV burned your baby! It did the same to my sons neck :/. The bumps did look more apparent after putting on the honey! The honey is going to pull the virus out of the bumps. Eventually I started noticing white stuff coming out of the center. (Kind of like a pimple) I would pull the white stuff out with tweezers (it didnt hurt my son at all) and re-apply the honey. I would use a Q-tip to apply it. Be sure you are covering it with tissue. His bumps took about a week or a little over to be gone!! I hope this works for you! I know what a pain they can be! If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!!

I clean them all with hydrogen peroxide, then apply the honey to each spot with a different Qtip and rolling the Qtip for larger clusters. Then I cover with cotton and then tape a large piece of a soft shirt I cut up. All the big ones were lanced my a dermatologist (traumatizing) and then I applied ACV so those have a scab now. There are others that are tiny little bumps so sometimes I don't even know if it's the MC and some in clusters so tiny I don't know if I'm just overly paranoid or what. If I see any bump anywhere I freak out all over again. I'm washing my hands like a hundred times a day seems like. Terrified this is gonna spread to other areas or to my 8 month old. Basically trying not to lose my marbles over here. I'm so happy and relieved this is over for you! Praying this will be over soon! The cream the dermatologist prescribed costs ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS! obviously that is not an option. Baby boy (3 years old) is also taking an antiviral for 21 days that helps with chicken Pox so we will see! He's been so good about all this. So sad he can't play in the tub or go swimming! DeleteI still freak out over any bump I see and it's been about 4 months!! I would change his towel after every use and I was always washing his sheets!! My son hated when he seen me pull out the ACV, that and the fact that they traveled up to his little face is what made me take a trip to the nature store! I also started him on Flintstone vitamins (2 a day) I read somewhere to start doing the vitamins so his immune system can build up and help fight off the MC. I had many nights where I cried because I felt so bad that he had to deal with them! I applied the honey during the day a couple times out of the week but mainly i would apply every night! I really hope this works for you!

Just one more question! Do you think the Manuka actually killed the MC or did it just bring it out more and you could remove the white virus part in each one? I ask this because my son won't let me near him with the tweezers.
ReplyDeleteI think a little of both. But if you put the cotton over them when you put the honey on, the middle might just come out onto the cotton when you remove it. I think that's what happened to alot of the ones my son had! I only pulled the middle out of maybe 2 of them and he had 15+! A big cluster on his neck, some spread out on his back, on his face and towards the end a few popped up on his collar bone :-(. Just keep applying every night and place the cotton on! My son freaked out when he seen the tweezers too but once I got the middle out he realized it didn't hurt and he was ok with it! It's amazing how great the kids take it. I think us parents have a harder time dealing with it then they do lol!! Good luck...prayers sent your way!

ReplyDeleteWe had 4 treatments of the Cantharone liquid treatment done on my daughers face, neck, and body. ABSOLUTELY traumatizing. The treatment made her face blister and burn. It burned for a day. And the blisters remained for about 6-8 days. Then after 10-12 days, she would get another treatment. And the derm kept MISSING some. And when I mentioned it to her, she replied with "we will do it next time." Next time MEANT AFTER TWO weeks. In between those two weeks, the few that were not treated caused the virus to spread more and more. And also, everytime we went to the dermatologists office, she would be running 40-50 minutes late, so even though I had asked them to schedule me for 2 blocks (meaning 30 minutes), she would STILL rush the procedure and do it under 7 minutes, even though I had been scheduled for 20 minutes. It annoyed me to the MAX. After the last treatment, after which the catharone slipped into the crease of my daughter's neck and BURNED almost her entire neck, I decided enough was ENOUGH. I decided to try tea tree oil for one month. It didn't work for us. My next try was apple cider vinegar. I first tried on her neck instead of the face. The ones on the body had already been treated with the Cantharone so now I was only dealing with the ones on the neck (about 5-7 of them) and the ones left on the face (used to be about 30) but now only 7-8 were left. Tried the ACV treatment first on neck to see the reaction. Yes her skin around the Molluscum did slightly become irritated, but it was really not as bad as I thought it was going to be. After seeing the first dot/pimple turn BLACK, I was just amazed. With the cantharone, they would also turn black (scabbing) but that was after a whole week of painful blisters. But with the ACV, no blisters, it just turned black!!! Couldn't be happier. I kept up with the neck ones and also started the ones on the face, one at a time. Now they are ALL gone!!!!! Just some scarring/skin discoloration left. Which they are healing day by day. I am using Vitamin E oil on her neck and face every night.
Tips:
- The soaking of the cotton ball as mentioned by the original blogger is very crucial. Some nights I would just apply ACV with a q-tip and leave it uncovered. The results were NOT the same as when I would soak the small cotton pad/ball in ACV and cover it with a band-aid. It speeds up the process greatly!
- Just DON'T listen to the doctors when they say "Nothing can be, just wait for 1-2 years." UMMM HELLO, 2 years??? She is starting pre-school is 2 years and you want me to wait? Not happening.
- Patience and consistency. I started off with twice a day and would try to remain home since her entire face was covered with band-aids and she wouldn't feel too comfortable outside of the house. Because she didn't have too many left to be treated, after a week, I started doing it once a day. You have to just keep trying and see what works best for you.

The ACV is DEFINITELY working for me and turning the MC black or big/white/puffy. Some spots that turned white and ruptured are now painful when touched by ACV and I don't know if I should continue attacking those spots...

DeleteApplecider Vinegar does work! However if you are having to do large areas or the ACV is burning the child too much then let's tell you that MANUKA HONEY 16+ works just as good and it does not burn at all or scar. For individual spots, put a tiny blob on it with a q-tip then a tiny ball of cotton on top of that and then a bandaid. Change every night. Should take a week and they will puff up and look bigger and this is good because that means you are only a few days from it being gone. Then it will have a scab. At that point you can leave it alone. if you have a ton of spots, and you don't know how you are going to get them all because you can't spread cream and have to use a different Qtip for Each one then spread the honey on a piece of wax paper then place the paper over the area and pull up. It leaves the honey behind and then you can cover the honey with cotton. I unrolled the cotton balls and would place them on top to cover area then placed a cut up piece of old tshirt on top of that and taped each side with medical tape. My son had them all over his right side. I thought I was going to lose my mind! We are finally Molluscum Free! The ACV JUST burned my baby too bad. When he had a lot of them I would only shower him and then when he just had a few I would bathe him with the band aids on. We also tried Emuaid but it didn't help. We should get this blog published! Thanks to all these mothers I was able to get through it and cure my sweet little boy!

Black or scab means dead. White and puffy means alive and contagious! Keep on applying! If the ACV burns then do the Manuka Honey!

Thanks for this post. Apple cider vinegar seems to be a cure all. Our dr told us it would go away on it's own, but that I dermatologist can splice them. One of my daughter's turned into a large boil/pimple and yesterday it turned black and I panicked. My husband squeezed it to make sure it was blood and not a tick. I applied an antibiotic cream. I will try the vinegar before I go and see a dermatologist.

ReplyDeleteIn total across my kids we dealt with hundreds of molluscum bumps over a period of 18 months. We tried various ointments but returned to a specific natural product called Mollenol. Along with simple apple cider vinegar swab over, Mollenol was really effective, easy to use, etc and didn't scar. I highly recommend it. www.mollenol.com
My daughter has about 30 bumps on her chest and stomach and under her arm but they are all still very small about pen tip size, do you think this treatment would work for her. It seems like with the ACV the bumps need to be puss filled and larger to be effective and I cannot bring myself to pop or pick at these things. So with smaller bumps in your experience did this product work well?
DeleteThe Manuka Honey works well even when they are super tiny and brand new. I am still finding new very tiny ones on my son and I immediately do the honey for a few days and they go away. The honey pulls the virus out and then kills it. It has been my saving grace! I used Raw Manuka Honey BioK Factor 16+. Email me with any questions!

DeleteThe same happened to us. Although I couldn't do more than one treatment of ACV on my son. We started with this in June and occasionally I think I see one popping up and I treat it even if I'm not sure if it's Molluscum. Once you start the honey it shouldn't take more than 5 days of treatment. I take a Qtip and dap a glob on top of each spot with a different Qtip for each spot. Then I cover each spot with a tiny piece of cotton i rip from a large cotton ball, then I cover with a round band aid or I buy the large flex material band aids and cut off the sticky part and use that. The flex material band aids stick the best and even stay on in water. I change the bandaid and redo the honey every 24 hours. The cotton will hold the honey there so no need to change more than once a day. Some band aids will also irritate your child's skin, sometimes even leaving bumps that look like new Molluscum coming in. It's all very frustrating and traumatizing! I also left the band aids on during baths then changed them afterward. I gave him showers also as to not soak in the water. How many bumps does he have?
ReplyDeleteGoing to try this. I have been researching for weeks and was about to buy something from Amazon. Since I have all the supplies listed I'm going to start immediately with the ACV. Hers are on her bottom and it is a bear to get her to let me look at them for more than a minute. When I first noticed them, one was very big and white. I "pulled the core" I now realize, and it bled a lot, but it did heal. Oh, God, I hope this works!

ReplyDeleteThanks to all for suggesting ACV. It did work for me. I had 6 lesions on my left leg and 3 on my right. All the ones on left turned black after applying ACV for 2 nights. The skin around the bumps have turned red and has kind of become itchy. I squeezed the skin around the bumps and a lot of watery substance comes out of those bumps. Should I still continue applying ACV? What should I apply to get rid of the scars?

I have a one year old she went from 5 of these to over 30 on her back and some on her tummy. I recommend ripping up pieces of cotton ball and placing on bump with a band aid. Yes the band aid causes red marks and scabs a little but its better than burning all the skin. I loved this post and it really works. Most of her bumps are dead and scabbed or have already fallen off. The dr recommended this dumb syrum that didn't work, so don't bother he also said wait two years they would fall off. No thank you they spread but this stuff worked so thank you.

You have to kill MC from the core.
Meanwhile, i worked hard to remove the cores with a pimple remover with a sharpend works wonders. If you dont have these, a sewing needle and tweezers.
I tried everything under the sun for my 5 year old. Painful liquid nitrogen treatments, retin-a that burned her skin badly, and the beetle juice made them spread even more. I read this article and gave it a shot. After letting my daughter play in the pool the mollusum turned white. I took a very sharp needle that I sterilized with alcohol and a lighter and extracted the white part of the bump, then ACV with bandaid on top. The process is painful so I could only do small groups of maybe four at a time over a period of serveral weeks. It took about 6 weeks but I killed them all with this method, so much more effective than any treatment that all failed from the doctor.

I decided to go with a bath with a body wash of Tea Tree Oil and Aloe and then to just dab each dot w the apple cider vinegar. Her skin is very sensitive even before this and I didn't want to risk making it worse by leaving the vinegar on too long w a bandage. They appear to be drying up...

I am a male who had MC on his groin - i was able to be completely MC free after 2.5 months (I am now 4 months MC free). Iodine Tincture mixed with Tea Tree Oil seems to be the #1 solution for me, though ACV did help (but left some scars).

DeleteSOS!!! Hi, my seven year old daughter has eczema and now had these awful bumps for a week. They are in her inner thigh and bum crack. Approx 60 of them all near her privates. I have attempted to get rid of them with the ACV and I think it may be working. some have gone black and others seems to have gotten smaller. My problem (apart from these awful lumps and what feels like torturing my child) is that the ACV has dried out her skin so much that she is incredibly itchy and irritated. DeleteThank you! I started using this three days ago on my 5 yr old son. He had 3 or 4 bumps and I found out what they were. The Dr said 2 years and it would run its course. My son is really bothered by them. He (at 5 yrs old) actually wanted to go back to the dr to 'freeze' them off. After a few weeks, they spread and now he has 30-40 all on his chest, arm pit and arm. I put the ACV on cotton and bandages soaked and covered them with huge square band aids over night. By day 2 they were all turning dark brown/black. Last night they stung so I waited until he fell asleep and applied bandaids soaked in ACV. This morning the tiny white ones are turning brown/black! This is working!

ReplyDeleteWe were able to get rid of my son's (5 yrs) MC in less than one month of diagnosis. He had it for about two months or so altogether, since we didn't take him to the dermatologist right away. When we did, the Dr. gave him a treatment of the medicine they apply (but don't prescribe)--Catarcindin? or whatever it's called. That stuff worked on the bumps that were treated but so few bumps had blistered and they only apply the medicine to the blister-y ones, so very few were treated that day. I had to make another appointment for 3 weeks later (!) to get another treatment. I was told that eventually the body would start to fight the infection on its own, but that I would be dealing with this for months or even years.
Of course I wasn't going to just sit around and not use Dr. Google--ha! So we started treating the bumps ourselves with ACV. That's all we used for the bumps, but we also continued using an eczema soap and cream to avoid more breaking of the skin that could further the infection (dr said kids with eczema were more prone to this because of this). Here's what we did, after following the advice on this blog:
NO BATHS, only washed him up and immediately treated his skin as usual with eczema lotion and then ACV on the bumps.
Any bumps that were blistered up we covered in bandaids covered in ACV.
Full strength ACV worked best. At first I was diluting it and it wasn't working very well. Yes, it may sting a bit, but my son got use to it.
We washed clothes and towels after one use.
As for application, if there were clusters, I used cotton balls to apply on a large area, and then Q-tips on the blisters that were ready to pop. Bandaids on all blisters.
After a couple weeks of doing this treatment TWICE a day, all of the bumps started going away and no new ones were growing.
I did noticed some new ones here and there that started going away on their own. I think his body is now starting to fight it naturally, but we are keeping a close watch on him.
I did also notice that after numerous treatments, on stubborn blisters that didn't seem to be going away, it was better to let them be for a day or so. Once we had been treating it for weeks we gave it a rest for a day and everything just dried up.

ReplyDeleteMy son is 9. He is 1/2 Japanese and 1/2 Filipino fwiw. He is a wrestler so that is most likely where he got his case from. He had it prior to a tournament in June 2016. I didn't really start treating it until it spread to a large portion of his neck to my mistake. I have treated with Neutrogena On-the-Spot Acne Treatment, Apple Cider Vinegar and finally ZymaDerm 1 Skin Rash Liquid. He had some on his upper back, chest and as I mentioned his neck. The apple cider vinegar worked fine on his back and chest, the caveat being you need to apply it with a absorbant bandaid overnight. I used the full force of the liquid, no dilution. I tried it on his neck this way but it started to scar his skin. The neck is more sensitive so it should be applied maybe 70% acv and 30% water. You have to check it on the neck more often too so it doesn't eat through the skin. The acv was applied for a couple of weeks but he hated the smell and always complained. The ZymaDerm 1 Skin Rash Liquid took longer but finally broke through w/ a combination of things. You have to be persistent w/ it. I think I applied it for about a 3-4 week period until the bumps finally started to recess. It was a pain trying to dab it on each and every bump. He didn't help matters by scratching it at night. He also has eczema so that complicated things even more. I would try to get him to wear socks on his hands but he'd eventually pull them off. I also had him wear a scarf to try to block him from reaching at his neck. Thinking about it now he may have helped destroy the bumps this way by killing them with his finger nails but each morning I would wipe his neck w/ the acv and his hands to kill any of the bacteria. I also gave him immuno-vitamins. I think over the days his body recognized that there was a bug on his neck and they finally looked like they dried out and died. It really takes time and persistence. Zymaderm is about 32 dollars for a little bottle so it's not cheap but cheaper than the Dermotologist which could be 100-200 for a visit. One other odd thing. He did go to the beach and he spent quite a bit of time in the ocean water. We noticed that this "appeared" to assist the process. The bumps looked like they were dying off for some reason. Not sure if it was a factor. He was playing on the surf for probably six hours! I think all these things added up and it was in time for the start of school. Good luck all.

ReplyDeleteI was haven herpes 2 on my private part. I have had them for about 2 and a bit years. I am so scared what my mates are going to says if there should fined out i have herpes on my private part and due to the virus my girlfriend broke up with me. I have been to the Doctors 9 times to get it treated. They all come back.
